The theme of this school week is: Justice.
The Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Justice is a hard word because we tend to associate it with a strict balance. It would be better to see it as that which enables us to be happy with God and our fellow men. Happiness is the key, and in this reading from St. Paul‟s letter to the Christians at Philippi, we hear Paul‟s recipe for justice and peace – tolerance, lack of worry, gratefulness and truth. It is a recipe worth thinking about.
“Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He could show up any minute!
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life.
Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realised. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.”
Let us pray:
Lord God, our Father,
it is your will that justice and peace should embrace.
We pray that we may discover
the thirst for justice
that brings peace in its wake.
We make this prayer
with the Man of Justice and Peace, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen.
Our Lady Queen of Peace pray for us.
