Monday the 5th of February saw Seaton Academy host St Michael’s and Ashfield Infants in a mini Dodgeball competition for year 1 children. Each School had been working on the skills required in PE lessons and After School Clubs in the lead up to the event and all 4 teams of 8 children were very excited to get started.

As Seaton were hosting they had 2 teams taking part and their “BLUE” team set off well edging out St Michael’s 8-3 in a thrilling match. Similarly, Seaton’s “PURPLE” team got off to a good start as well winning 8-2 against Ashfield.

As the competition moved on matches became tighter as the skills and understanding of the game improved and it was good to see so many children having so much fun as well as trying their hardest.

After 6 matches and a well deserved refreshment break of raisins, satsumas and water it was back to the court. Ashfield had narrowly missed out on the final on points but were now coming up against a much improved St Michael’s in the third place play off and the match duly went to an exciting shootout as Ashfield ran out 6-5 winners.

This left both Seaton teams to fight out the final and true to form it went to another shootout with the Purple team winning 3-2.

Organiser and Sports Development Officer for the St Joseph’s cluster David Wise said: “Most of the children were experiencing competitive Sport for the first time and it was so lovely to see such enthusiasm”. “From my experience getting children into fun, competitive small events such as this is only good for them as their skills develop rapidly and they learn so much”. “Seaton Academy were great hosts and the children and staff from all three Schools had such a great time”.
