A dominant performance from Ashfield Junior School’s Year 3 and 4 Tennis players ensured they qualified as Allerdale champions for the prestigious County School Games finals at Carlisle in July.
The team, which was made up of two boys and two girls played very well winning 13 out of 16 matches and losing two others by a single point as St Herbert’s from Keswick qualifying as runners up.
The Small Schools competition was won by Plumbland School from the Beacon Hill cluster with Kirkbride from the Nelson Thomlinson cluster also qualifying for the finals.
Event organiser David Wise said; “The Allerdale finals brought together the best teams from west Cumbria and the level was high”. “The competition was a very well contested affair with the Tennis leaders from St Joseph’s Catholic High School Umpiring the matches really well supported by students from Lakes College”.
“The leaders, along with Netherhall students will be Umpiring the finals as well so this area will be very well represented in what is a really excellent celebration of Cumbrian Sport at Carlisle in July”.
