Adam and Eve were created good and lived in harmony with God, with each other, and with all of creation. This perfect relationship only existed because of the free will that God gave to Adam and Eve. God placed a tree, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, in the Garden of Eden and commanded Adam and Eve to not eat the fruit of that particular tree (Genesis 2:17). Adam and Eve were tempted to disobey God by the devil. They gave into this temptation, his big lie, and their sin disrupted the relationship and harmony they shared with God, each other, and creation. We call this action original sin.
This week in The Way we are learning and praying about how we can trust God in His plan to rescue us from original sin – through His Son, Jesus – and that our prayers can strengthen us in the face of temptation.
