ST JOSEPH’S TENNIS LEADERS CONTINUE FINE TRADITION OF UMPIRING EXCELLENCE

For the past 4 years St Joseph’s School have been running a year 8 Sports Leaders programme officiating at and helping to run festivals orgainsed by the School’s Sports Development Officer David Wise. As part of the programme Mr Wise delivers a “Tennis Leaders” course which gives the leaders the chance to gain certification in 2 areas of Tennis assisting and Umpiring and subsequently help run the annual level 1, 2 and 3 Tennis festivals.

8 of the current year 8 group attended the course on a Sunday in March and they have since demonstrated a very good understanding of the game at the Workington Schools’ level 1 event in March and the level 2 Allerdale finals.

Mr Wise was quick to heap praise on the students; “Umpiring Tennis matches needs many talents as well as a very good level of concentration and I am very pleased with this year’s leaders”. “They have been highly professional and I am looking forward to taking them to the county finals in July”.
