Monday the 8th of July saw Mrs Hilland and Mr Wise take a group of year 8 Sports Leaders to Wimbledon to see some of the most famous ever sports stars along with a future star in the making.
On what was a beautiful day for Tennis our 10 leaders settled down on the newly roofed number 1 court to watch one of the world’s most famous ever female Athletes Serena Williams power her way to victory over Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro. After a snack break it was time to take in 15 year old sensation Cori “Coco” Gauff’s match against former world number 1 Simona Halep. Coco has been the talk of the sporting world after her sensational run through the draw but after an amazing start to the match it was sadly not to be for her as her more experienced opponent took control to win in straight sets.
Next up was world number 1 Novak Djokovic and he showed us exactly why he is in that position by outplaying Frenchman Ugo Humbert.
By now our leaders were hungry and tired and almost ready for the hotel but we did get a bonus by watching another Tennis legend in Venus Williams in her mixed doubles match and some of the leaders did a bit of star spotting seeing Ant from Ant and Dec and getting a photo with actress Rebel Wilson.
Day 2 saw the group take in the magnificent sights of the Royal Albert Hall, Albert memorial, Princess Diana memorial gardens, the Serpentine and a walk through Kensington Gardens before finishing the trip with a short visit to the Science Museum before heading to Euston for our train home.
The trip was an amazing success and the leaders were a delight to escort there.
Huge thanks go to Mrs Houghton for her hard work in booking the tickets and getting us organised!
