Tuesday the 16th of November saw 7 Schools, 14 teams and 112 children descend on St Joseph’s School sports hall for our first ever year 3 and 4Benchball competition. In what was the first taste of School representation and competitive action for most children the event turned out to be everything that we had hoped for. The sheer energy, sportsmanship, teamwork, competitiveness and skill on show was something to behold with the added bonus of expert leadership, officiating and organisation from our year 9 sports leaders.

Organiser and Sports Development Officer Mr Wise could not hide his delight; “I am sure that this was one of the best events we have ever held here”. “It was full of so many of the things that are so good about sport and it was played with so many smiles on the faces of the children taking part”. “The pandemic has denied this age group the opportunities that were afforded to the children before them and their pure joy and enthusiasm at taking part was very clear to see”.

The event came to a thrilling climax as Beckstone and St Gregory’s fought out a “next one wins” final with Beckstone taking the prize with an amazing throw and catch.

Our next event will be a BOCCIA competition on Tuesday the 7th of December.
