Tuesday the 7th of December saw 7 Primary Schools descend on St Joseph’s School to take part in our first ever Boccia festival. Related to Bowls and Petanque, Boccia is an inclusive sport that plays out in a similar way to Bowls with participants aiming to bowl  to get as close to the jack as possible.

Teams are made up of three players with each player bowling twice and with each School bringing 2 teams it was a non-stop 2 hours of competitive play with every child totally focused on their respective matches. With the clock ticking on and after 20 matches completed we arrived at the gripping final between St Patrick’s and Beckstone which Beckstone edged by a few centimetres!

As ever, organiser and Sports Development Officer Mr Wise was elated at the outcome; “Boccia is a wonderful Sport and it was so good to see these primary school children enjoying themselves whilst competing”. “As this was our first Boccia event I was a little nervous at how it would be received but the children absolutely loved it and with our year 8 leaders hosting the event so adeptly  my worries were very much allayed”.

Our next festival will be key stage 1 Dodgeball in January.
