A nail biter of a final between twice winners St Patrick’s and Beckstone rounded off a fantastic morning of Table Tennis competition at St Joseph’s School’s annual Table Tennis event.

The competition is now in its’ third year and it attracted its’ largest entry to date with ten teams representing 5 Schools from the Workington and Maryport areas.

The teams are made up of 4 players from key stage 2 as well as their accompanying member of staff. This makes the event unique and it also gives the chance to shout for their Teacher for a change.

The traditional group stages left us with both St Patrick’s teams, Beckstone and Ashfield as the semi-finalists and after tight, exciting matches we were left with St Patrick’s B and Beckstone in the final with the match going down to the wire and the member of staff match being the deciding rubber.

The event was run by Sports Development Officer David Wise and the year 8 Sports Leaders from St Joseph’s and Mr Wise had a special mention for his team. “Our leaders are such a special bunch that we can choose any of them at short notice and they still do a high quality and professional job”. “Table Tennis is such a fast moving Sport and umpiring matches is a skill in itself but they really carried it off and many staff members from the Primary School were very complimentary of them”.

Our next event is the Key Stage 2 Dodgeball competition on Tuesday the 12th of March.
