Monday 5th December: What’s Advent Again?

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reflection

The theme of this school week is about Mary, the mother of Jesus, but first: what’s advent again??

Prayer

Thank you Father, for your patience with us;
Loving you one moment
Forgetting you the next
Thank you for your endless love
Which does not give up
But wants the best for us
Despite our faults
Thank you for your promise
To all who believe
And put their trust in you
Everlasting life
And in this Advent season
May the endless love of Jesus
Resound in hearts and minds
Drawing many to Him
Where they might find forgiveness
And knowledge of your plan for their lives.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen.

Our Lady Queen of Peace pray for us.
St Joseph pray for us

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Friday 2nd December: Slow down. Take Time. Open up.

The theme of this school week is: Advent.

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Reflection

Waiting. It is not attractive word. It seems boring. What if… you were waiting for something that would change your life? How would you get ready for it? Would you make yourself busy, filling your life with noise and distraction? Rushing to get gratification. Would you spend all your time doing everything… but slowing down? NO?

Well this is what we do every year. Each year we have an opportunity, to dramatically change our life. But most of the time we miss it. We spend our time running around, trying to get everything done in time. When most of us forget, to get the most important thing ready…Our Heart.

This is what Advent is all about. Slowing Down and Waiting. To get our Heart ready… To bring Jesus into our life… A bit more fully, than before

Advent. slow down. take time. open up.

Prayer

Father, help us to do this. To open our hearts to You, not to get distracted by the rush and noise of Christmas. Help us remember You are the reason for the season. In Jesus name.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

Thursday 1st December: The Light

The theme of this school week is: Advent

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Scripture

From the book of Isaiah 9:2

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. They lived in a land of shadows, but now light is shining on them.

reflection

A constant feature of Christmas decorations is light. We see coloured lights on trees, in shops, on the streets. Many who see Christmas lights will hardly remember that the reason for lights at Christmas is the reading we have just heard. When we say that Jesus is the light of the world, we are thinking also about the darkness. The darkness of the world is sin, anger, hatred, violence, greed and selfishness of every kind. Jesus came to point another way, the way of love. The way of love is the way of light.

Prayer

We pray that all who live in the darkness may come into the light of God’s love. We pray that we may receive peace in our hearts at Christmas, and that we may share some peace with others. In Jesus’ name.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Wednesday 30th November: John the Baptist

The theme of this school week is: Advent

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Scripture

From Matthew 3:1-3

John the Baptist came to the desert of Judea and started preaching. “Turn away from your sins,” he said, “because the Kingdom of Heaven is near!” John was the man the prophet Isaiah was talking about when he said, “someone is shouting in the desert, ‘prepare a way for the Lord; make a straight path for him to travel.”

Reflection

Two figures dominate the season of Advent: John the Baptist and Mary. During the first part of Advent we look at John. He was sent to prepare people’s hearts for the coming of Jesus. He told them to turn away from sin, to live good lives. He does not point to himself but to Jesus. When sinners came to him he received them with kindness, even when great sinners, provided they wanted to repent. But he had hard words for those who were not sincere. A key idea for Advent is repentance. Repentance is saying sorry to God for the things we have done wrong.  But this is not a sad message, repentance brings us into life and peace.

Prayer

May the blessing of our loving God come upon us this day; may we prepare to meet him and feel the presence and power of his Spirit always.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen.

Tuesday 29th November: The Time is at Hand

The theme of this school week is: Advent

The Sign of the Cross

in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

stay-awake1

Scripture

Matthew 24:42-44

Be on your guard then because you do not know what day the Lord will come. Stay awake! You also must always be ready because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him.

Reflection

At the time of Jesus, people were watching for the Messiah to come. But when Jesus came, they did not recognise Him. Jesus comes into our lives in various ways. He comes through grace, he comes in the needs of others, he comes when we receive love, he comes when we show love. Let’s keep our eyes open to recognise the ways that Jesus comes into our lives so He can find us awake and ready to receive what He wants to give us.

Prayers

The response is:

Come Lord Jesus, come to us in love.

We prayer for the needs of others and ourselves. For all people to discover the true meaning of Christmas, that God is with us: Come Lord Jesus, come to us in love.

For all who work to spread the good news that God is our loving Father: Come Lord Jesus, come to us in love.

For all who are trapped in the darkness of anger, and find it hard to forgive: Come Lord Jesus, come to us in love.

For ourselves that we may prepare our hearts well for the coming of Jesus each day into our lives and at Christmas: Come Lord Jesus, come to us in love.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
