Friday 3rd February: One Second Without Hope

The theme of this school week is: Hope.

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

They say that a “man can live about forty days without food, about three days without water, about eight minutes without air, but only for one second without hope.” Hope can be the difference between success and failure. You can withstand so much if you know you have people who support you and are looking out for you. You can face just about anything, as long as you don’t lose the hope that you can succeed. Even hope and faith as tiny as a mustard seed can produce mountainous amounts of blessings.

Even in the darkest rooms, a tiny candle can shed light. The lighthouse that sends its light to warn sailors of dangerous areas or points of navigation, are only lit by a 250-1000 watt light bulb, but can be seen anywhere from 14-19 miles away. The difference? The light reflects off mirrors. Is your ‘light’ reflecting to help others? Are you being an encouragement to those around you?

In Matthew 5:14-16, it reminds us that as Christians, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”” Is your spiritual light reflecting off the Father? Are you sharing your light to help those lost in darkness? In these dark times, we need to reflect the light, love, and life of Jesus to the world.

Prayer

Our Father who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

Our Lady Queen of Peace pray for us.

St Joseph pray for us

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The theme of this school week is: Hope.

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Scripture

“Love your neighbour as yourself” – Matthew 22:39

Reflection

How can I cultivate hope in my life? Sometimes it can be hard to have hope for the future. The world can seem to be working against us at times, and life can seem like an uphill struggle. Jesus, as always, has the answer: to give a little love, to love your neighbour as yourself. And how do I do that?  Like this:

Prayer

Father, I am sorry for the times I have lost hope, and I am sorry for all the opportunities I have missed to regain hope by loving by neighbour. Please open my eyes to see all the opportunities You provide me with everyday to give a little love to those around me. May these acts of kindness change our world and further Your kingdom of love and hope.

In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil. Amen.

Prayer

Heavenly father,I come before you today in need of hope.

I need hope for love and kindness.
In your name I pray,

And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil. Amen.

Reflection

Prayer

Father, something inside me wants to believe. To believe that there is more to my life than I currently see. To believe that You care for me and love me. To believe You have a plan and a purpose for my life. Lord, it is hard to believe. Help my unbelief so I may have hope in You.

In Jesus name.

Amen.
