The theme of this school week is: Advent
The Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Scripture
From the book of Isaiah 9:2
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. They lived in a land of shadows, but now light is shining on them.
reflection
A constant feature of Christmas decorations is light. We see coloured lights on trees, in shops, on the streets. Many who see Christmas lights will hardly remember that the reason for lights at Christmas is the reading we have just heard. When we say that Jesus is the light of the world, we are thinking also about the darkness. The darkness of the world is sin, anger, hatred, violence, greed and selfishness of every kind. Jesus came to point another way, the way of love. The way of love is the way of light.
Prayer
We pray that all who live in the darkness may come into the light of God’s love. We pray that we may receive peace in our hearts at Christmas, and that we may share some peace with others. In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
