Tuesday 6th December: Saying Yes to God’s Love

The theme of this school week is: Mary.

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

From Luke 1:28-38

God sent the angel Gabriel to the Galilean village of Nazareth to a virgin engaged to be married to a man descended from David. His name was Joseph, and the virgin’s name, Mary. Upon entering, Gabriel greeted her:

Good morning!
You’re beautiful with God’s beauty,
Beautiful inside and out!
God be with you.
She was thoroughly shaken, wondering what was behind a greeting like that. But the angel assured her, “Mary, you have nothing to fear. God has a surprise for you: You will become pregnant and give birth to a son and call his name Jesus.

Mary said to the angel, “But how?”

The angel answered,

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
the power of the Highest hover over you;
Therefore, the child you bring to birth
will be called Holy, Son of God.
Nothing, is impossible with God.”

And Mary said,

“Yes, I see it all now:
I’m the Lord’s maid, ready to serve.
Let it be with me
just as you say”.
Then the angel left her.

After John the Baptist, the second figure in Advent is Mary. As we think about her life, she can teach us how to welcome Jesus into our hearts and lives. Mary’s role was unique: to be the Mother of God, which was to bring Jesus into the world. The vocation of each one of us is also unique: we aim to bring Jesus and his love into our world. Mary’s response was instant and generous.

May the Lord bless us as we journey through Advent. May he open our ears to his call, our minds to his will and our hearts to say “yes” to his love. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen.

Our Lady Queen of Peace pray for us.
St Joseph pray for us

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
