A phenomenal crescendo of excitement, noise, enjoyment, competitiveness and sheer determination will be the abiding memories of our first ever Primary School Benchball competition.
With 120 year 5 and 6 children taking part it was always going to be lively but this was just magical and it was a fantastic celebration of the School competitions that the pandemic had cruelly robbed us of and it really felt like we we were making up for lost time.
As for the event itself it was a tale of bravery, skill, teamwork, brilliant throws, dropped catches, amazing catches and all round excitement!
The 15 teams were finally whittled down to semi-finals contested by 4 excellent sides in the shape of Seaton, Westfield and both teams from Beckstone and it was Beckstone who ended up playing out a final worthy of any occasion with their “A” team taking the trophy.
Our sports leaders programme at St Joseph’s has been expanded over the last year and  it was the turn of the year 9’s to expertly umpire the event and they came through with flying colours as expected.
Sports Development Officer Mr Wise couldn’t hide his delight at the success of the event; “This event was everything i had hoped for and more and i cannot thank the Schools, their children and our leaders enough for putting on such a wonderful show, it was so enjoyable”.
