St. Joseph's Catholic High School

A small, dedicated Catholic secondary school in the heart of Workington.
Living - Loving - Learning

It is with a heavy heart that I must write this. Words cannot truly express how our school community is feeling at the tragic loss of Roick. Our hearts go out to his family and friends at this time of grief and pain. It is impossible to express the impact that Roick had on our school and our community. St. Joseph’s will be a poorer place without him in it. Roick was well known and loved within our school. He was an incredibly popular student and will be missed greatly. The children and staff of the school have been sharing cherished memories of Roick as well as heartfelt tears. The outpouring of emotion has been profound since we found out. Roick had a lust for life, and he embraced all the opportunities available. He was a keen sportsman and a successful competitive swimmer. Roick was a loyal and devoted friend, an important member of the Computer Science club and the captain of the Lego League team. His ambition was to be an engineer. The children and staff of the school have started to share ideas on what we can do to have a permanent memorial to Roick. My abiding memory of Roick will be when we used to share dad jokes on the Year 7 yard. He used to bound up to me and ask me “did I know any good jokes?” I remember once I told him my two favourite jokes, “What do you call a woman who stands in the middle of a tennis court... Annette”, and “How do you make a sausage roll… push it down a hill”. Instead of the usual groans he laughed with joy and proceed to tell his friends, full of glee. This is how I will remember him, full of laughter and a life lived well. I am sure you will have your own cherished memories of Roick.Roick will forever be remembered at St. Joseph’s. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved him. Ian,Headteacher ... See MoreSee Less

A huge thank you to our school community. We are so proud to have received a certificate of appreciation from North Lakes Foodbank for donating an incredible 258kg of food in 2024! Most of this amazing contribution came from our annual Reverse Advent Calendar appeal, where our students, families, and staff generously donated food items throughout December. Your kindness and community spirit made a real difference to those in need. Thank you to everyone who took part—together, we are making a positive impact! #SJCHS #Workington #cumbria #CommunitySpirit #northlakesfoodbank #reverseadventcalendar #TogetherWeCan #proudmoment ...
