Despite a very early 5am start, the excitement was high as we travelled by bus to Carlisle, jumped on a train to London Euston, and navigated the Tube to Southfields before walking to the iconic grounds of Wimbledon! Once inside, our students were treated to a day packed with sporting history and action including a visit to the legendary Centre Court, watching a live interview with former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash, watching Junior matches and practice sessions including a sighting of future champion Iga Świątek, visits to the fantastic interactive Wimbledon Museum and exploring the stunning grounds and catching as much live action as possible!![]()
To top it all off, we took our seats on Court No.1 to enjoy a thrilling men's doubles semi-final, where David Pel & Rinky Hijikata triumphed over top seeds Marcelo Arevalo & Mate Pavic in a gripping 3-hour battle. This was followed by a fantastic British win, as Julian Cash & Lloyd Glasspool booked their spot in the final, which they later went on to win! ![]()
With temperatures soaring and memories made, we headed home, full of stories, ending the day with some lively karaoke on the bus back from Carlisle, finally arriving back at St Joseph’s just before midnight. A huge well done to all of our Sports Leaders for representing the school so brilliantly throughout the day!![]()
